Potato Trial #3

 

Variety: Mondials

Place: Donkerbos District – Ceres (Western Cape – sand)

Trial Executed by: Farm manager, Hano and Izak Brand (Area manager B.O.S. (Boland Organic Services))

Trial is done on 2,2 hectares and control on 10,2 hectares. Potatoes were plant on 28 December 2010 (remind opposite season in South Africa).

In the advised spraying programme the following products were used within the usual sprays:

• Herbali, a plant strengthener: 4 litres

• HP Aktive, which is a root stimulant: 200 ml

On different stages the products activate a specific effect on

• Balance in vegetative and generative leaf balance (no shooting)

• Root development is stimulated, healthy plant growth, mobilisation of nutrients, uniform potato sizes

Potatoes were harvested on 17 May 2011 with the following results:

Yield

• Trial: 50,1 ton per hectare

• Control: 46 ton per hectare (+ 9%)

• General Quality + 5%

Uniformity:

• Supers (large) + 5%

• Medium + 5%

• Small -/- 6 %
